I tried a facial from Victoria Beckham’s "desert island" brand
The name Augustinus Bader immediately brings to mind the haute skincare line founded by the esteemed professor, an avid philanthropist who discovered the efficacy of his key ingredient formula when working closely with burns victims.
His high performance, no nonsense The Cream and The Rich Cream are loved by beauty editors and skincare fanatics alike, and used by high-profile names such as Margot Robbie, Priyanka Chopra, Lily Aldridge and Victoria Beckham, the latter of whom has gone on to collaborate with the doctor in a major way.
Beckham's beauty brand’s first foray into skincare was released last year, and created in partnership with Professor Bader. Called the Cell Rejuvenating Priming Moisturizer by Victoria Beckham Beauty, it combines the groundbreaking 'TFC8® technology' that Bader products are known for, in a glow-giving formula that acts as an ideal base for make-up. Beckham then continued her elegant march toward world dominance this month when the cosmetics wing of her empire, Victoria Beckham Beauty, launched a second product: Cell Rejuvenating Power Serum.

We can’t get the latest VB-related release in a bricks and mortar store here just yet, but we can access Augustinus Bader’s award-winning skincare and treatments exclusively at one of my personal favourite pampering spots, Spring Spa on Auckland’s Ponsonby Road. When I heard that the skin rejuvenating Augustinus Bader Facial was on offer at Spring I was basically knocking the door down to make an appointment, and finally submitted to the hands of one of their talented therapists not long after.
Inspired by Bader’s 30 years of ground breaking research and innovation, the head trainers at Spring have created an intensely luxurious, super hydrating facial with the professor’s signature TFC8® that stimulates skin’s natural processes of rejuvenation to repair and visibly reduce signs of ageing. The hour-long facial is luxe selfcare at its best, and includes an application of Augustinus Bader The Cream or Rich Cream according to your skin type.
Augustinus Bader The Cream and The Rich Cream
My hour long treatment began with a much needed deep cleanse, erasing any makeup and preparing my skin for the hyaluronic acid sheet masque that was applied next. Like a cool drink of water for my skin, it wasn’t part of the Bader family but still did a considerable job plumping and boosting moisture levels where I needed it most. The therapist followed this with an LED red light treatment to stimulate collagen, administering a shoulder and neck massage whilst I relaxed and was reminded YET AGAIN how overdue I am for a massage! Finally, a generous application of Augustinus Bader The Cream is massaged in and I floated back out onto Ponsonby Road, plump, dewy skin at the ready.
My skin also felt incredibly soft and healthy, and stayed plumped and poreless for several days after, making it the perfect indulgence in the lead up to a big day or night out. I could wax lyrical about the powers of LED light treatments for days, and the added masque and famed Bader potions make for a truly delicious experience.

At $420 for a 50ml bottle of The Cream or The Rich Cream, switching to a Bader regime isn’t cheap, but at $180 this luxe facial experience is definitely one way to dip your toes into the water. But be warned – you could get hooked.
