12 surprising perks of working from home
As we head into alert level four of the coronavirus pandemic, a large majority of New Zealanders will be making the transition from office to remote working. But it’s not all bad – sure you might find it a bit harder to stay motivated working from home but it has its fair share of pros too, which I was quick to embrace this week ;)
Take breakfast (and lunch) up a level
Gone are the days of dry, flaky porridge or chugging a smoothie on-the-go, make the most of all the kitchen staples and appliances at your fingertips and indulge in a more lavish breakfast.
The commute is five seconds
Literally. From bed to desk, the morning commute has never been less stressful.
More free time
You can use the time you’d usually be getting ready and commuting to do something for yourself (read a book, watch some TV, listen to a podcast or just sleep in!)
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE makeup but when else do you get four weeks to give your skin a total detox?!
Track pants are a totally acceptable work uniform
Every day is casual Friday. Yesterday I wore gym gear, today I wore track pants…tomorrow I might not even get out of my PJ’s...but who cares?! No one!
No bra, no worries
Ladies, will feel me on this.
No more "can I borrow you for a second?", no more updates about Anna's kitchen reno while you're heating up lunch, no meetings about meetings. Yes there’s distractions of a different kind (household chores, pets and if you’re anything like me…food) but you can control the distractions unlike office noise and chit-chat.
You do you
You can create your own working environment. Create a more inspiring office atmosphere, listen to the radio, set your laptop up outside for a couple of hours, stream Netflix in the background (who said you can’t listen to Love Is Blind while attending to emails!) Whatever works for you!
More time with your furry friend
Dogs and cats in NZ (and the world) over have never been happier.
Finally all those meetings that should have always been emails will actually just be emails. Enjoy it while it lasts!
Flexible working hours
Make your own hours. If you work better in the mornings get up earlier and finish earlier (or vice versa if you’re a night owl).
Petrol, public transport, takeaway coffee, Friday after work wines…it’s all more dollars in your pocket. Why not write a list of things you’d like to put your extra savings towards once this is all a distant memory (new wardrobe staples, dinner with friends, a massage)
Workout on your own terms! Slot in a lunchtime HIIT session or some afternoon yoga. There are heaps of amazing workouts you can do at home no equipment needed.
