Nod founder Claire Beatson shares three top tips for better sleep
Sleep doesn’t come easy for many people, and for Nod sleep drops founder Claire Beatson, it was a lack of a good deep sleep that was the catalyst for starting her sleep support supplement brand. The mother of three collaborated with herbal medicine practitioners to create a 100% natural herbal alternative to sleeping pills and is now helping people live their best lives through sleep.
But it’s not just taking Nod every night that Claire says helps her to achieve a restful slumber – “For me, sleep is about how healthy I am, and how happy I am,” she says. So we asked Claire to share a few of her best tips for a better sleep, so you can have one too. Read on for her personal recommendations.
1. Make health a priority
Health is about a few key things, [starting with] eating in a way that works for you. For me that’s very little gluten and dairy. This way your body is relaxed overnight. You’ll notice when you eat the wrong food for your constitution as you’ll be up with a sore stomach and you’ll feel exhausted in the morning as your body is directing energy into digestion rather than replenishment.
Health is also about exercise. A walk around the park does wonders; a run, even better!
I’m also a big fan of plant-based medicine for wellness, so I have a few formulas going on at any one time that help to support my nervous system, my immune system and my sleep.
2. Cultivate your happiness
Happiness is the other key factor for good sleep. I try to practice gratitude in my daily life and I’m effusive about telling those in my life how much I love them, constantly! Having a positive and open approach to life breeds contentment at night, I really believe this.
3. Create a beautiful bedroom environment
Lastly, creating a beautiful bedroom space is key for me. Low light, a candle, a good book – I have one spiritual book and one escape book on the go at all times. I believe that sleep breeds sleep and you can never have enough, so not getting to bed too late is always a good idea, and the power of freshly washed sheets can’t be underestimated. If I can’t shut my mind down I write my night-before to-do list for the next day. Pen and paper is better than the notes app on your phone – blue light isn’t great for sleep as it stimulates the brain.
