Sunscreens beauty editors take on holiday
We all know the importance of wearing sunscreen in New Zealand – hello, ozone! – but finding a formula that smells good, is light-weight, doesn’t leave you feeling greasy and provides the right amount of protection can be a bit of a guessing game. Never fear, the beautyheaven team has come to the rescue with tried and tested sunscreen picks for the season. Here are the beauty editor-approved sun protection products we’ll be taking on holiday with us this summer.
Dermalogica Protection 50 Sport SPF 50, $65
I keep quite a few different sunscreens on hand and try to be religious about applying. I use a primer with high SPF on my face (I like Coola Daydream Mineral Primer or Maybelline’s new FaceStudio Prime Protecting Primer) and for my body I'm all about Dermalogica’s Sport SPF 50 as it goes on quickly and absorbs nicely without leaving skin sticky. It’ll be great to pack for beach getaways and the bonus is, my young son’s sensitive skin tolerates it well, too.

Bondi Sands Coconut Beach Sunscreen Lotion SPF50+, $22.99, from Life Pharmacy
I have always been a huge fan of Bondi Sands; the tanning products and also the sunscreen. This lotion is non-greasy, has high SPF protection (which is a must for my pale complexion) and boasts the beautiful smell of summer, too.

Coola Sport SPF 30 Sunscreen Spray Pina Colada, $59
While I’m not one for thick greasy sunscreens, I won’t leave the house without an SPF. This is why I adore Coola Sport SPF 30. It’s an incredibly lightweight, antioxidant-infused mist that nourishes and hydrates skin while it protects, and is filled with certified organic ingredients like cucumber, algae and red raspberry seed oil.

Invisible Zinc Sheer Defence SPF50 Tinted, $24.99, from Life Pharmacy
I am notorious for over-packing beauty products when I go on holiday but this summer I'm all about multi-tasking. So when I head away for the New Year, this little tube is going to be my daily moisturiser, protection and makeup in one. I love the new formulation which is feather-light, kind of like a BB cream, with the massive advantage of being water resistant for 2 hours.

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Sunscreen Spray SPF 50+, $22.99
I use a mineral sunscreen on my face every day (Elta MD Skincare UV Elements Broad Spectrum SPF 44 Tinted) but when it comes to putting sunscreen on my entire body, it’s got to be one that dries instantly and has zero chance of stickiness. Not only does this new mist from Hawaiian Tropic do just that, but it will take you all the way back to high school with its delicious mango and papaya tropical scent. Gotta love that summertime nostalgia.

Nivea Sun UV Face Shine Control SPF 50, $12.99
When it comes to sunscreen my biggest bugbear is when it FEELS like sunscreen. I’ve heard great things about NIVEA’s new Sun UV Face Shine Control SPF50, which provides protection without the sticky feeling. It’s also a bonus that it has a mattifying effect to combat shine – perfect for summer getaways!
