We review Glow Lab's natural purple shampoo and conditioner
With every trip to the hairdresser I seem to go blonder. I’m on a mission to achieve brighter than bright, creamy, cool locks. And, I’ll go as far to say that the blonder I go the more fun I have – for me, there truly is merit and a connection between feeling good about my blonde tresses and having fun.
But what’s not so fun, as any faux blonde (or even natural) will tell you, is maintaining the colour. Whether it’s a chlorinated dip that strips your now-green stands dry, lack of sunshine making it dull or just too much time between appointments, the upkeep of maintaining the perfect blonde is no easy task.
For most of us, regular visits to the salon just aren’t feasible, which is where purple shampoo comes in. Purple shampoo, also known as silver shampoo, helps keep blonde hair bright and vibrant by neutralising any brassy, yellow tones. So if, like me, you’re on an eternal quest to channel Daenerys Targaryen’s enviable platinum locks scroll down for a new purple shampoo with a difference…
Glow Lab Purple Shampoo and Conditioner
Until my recent discovery (read on for the scoop), I hadn’t found a natural purple shampoo that actually worked. I was definitely conscious that the harsh formulas I previously used wouldn’t be doing wonders for the condition of my hair but wasn’t willing to compromise on the results. Enter Glow Lab’s new Purple Shampoo and Conditioner – it boasts a salon quality formula and results in line with the brand’s plant-based and clinically-proven ingredients philosophy.
Keratin, the hero ingredient in the range, is a protein that protects the cuticle and strengthens hair from within. It essentially rebuilds damage caused by things like chemicals (hello bleaching) heat and environmental factors improving the overall condition of hair. The range is also boosted with the super-hydrating benefits of Vitamin E, Pro-Vitamin B5 and Betaine to deliver that soft, shiny, ultra-sleek finish.
Sceptical that a natural purple shampoo at such an affordable price point ($14.99 each!), that’s both silicone and sulphate-free, could stack up to my usual, I put the range to the test.

I have naturally mousy-gold blonde hair but have been getting highlights for some time now. Currently, I have a 1/2 head of highlights and it's been about six weeks since my last hair appointment and it's definitely obvious. It's got a noticeable yellow, brassy tinge to it, which I hoped Glow Lab's Purple Shampoo and Conditioner could lift. What makes a good purple shampoo for me? There's a visible difference, less contrast at the roots and an all-over creamy finish.
The performance of Glow Lab’s purple shampoo and conditioner surpassed my expectations for sure.
It removed any unwanted brassiness and noticeably enhanced the vibrancy and colour of my hair. The biggest drawcard for me is how my hair felt afterwards: silky soft, shiny and fresh. Normally, after my weekly purple shampoo rinse my hair feels dry and brittle (like straw…eek) and it’s really difficult to brush through when wet. But, the ingredients in this and using it alongside a purple conditioner, which I don’t usually, made a huge difference to the touch and feel. And, OMG the shine-factor is incredible! Considering it’s not loaded with silicone I was so impressed my hair was so radiant after.
I would highly recommend this purple shampoo to my fellow blonde brigade ;) Also, double win that the bottles are made from 100 percent recycled plastic sourced from water and juice bottles!
