The French manicure is making a fresh and colourful comeback
Nail trends may come and go, but a classic that'll always be considered a staple is the French manicure.
Whether it was Barbara Streisand in the 70s or Lauren Conrad and JLo in the 00s who made you do it, we've all had a love affair with the white-tipped, natural base at one point or another. And it still remains a popular choice for brides today.
But the classic has recently been given a whole new colourful twist by nail artist's, at-home manicurists and celebrities alike, mixing the modern-day 'skittle manicure' trend (where each nail is a different colour) with the traditional design.
The result? A rainbow-tipped French manicure masterpiece.
Most designs have been going for a clear or beige base, with bright coloured, and rounded tips.
It's a great design for short and long nails alike, with Kylie Jenner even jumping on the trend.
As far as DIY'ing it goes, all you need it a striping brush ($9.95, mitty.com.au), and a bit of time up your sleeve.
Start by applying your base colour on each nail, and then wait until it's completely dry. Then, using your striping brush (which is thinner and longer than a regular nail brush for precise lines) draw on your tips. You may need to rinse the brush in between for different colours, or have multiple brushes on the go.
We for one are loving the combined trends - such a chic way to incorporate colour!
