Shiseido

Shiseido is the second oldest cosmetic company in the world, founded in 1872 in Ginza, Tokyo, by Yushin Fukuhara. At this time, when oriental medicine was the norm, Shiseido was the first private western-style pharmacy in Japan. The brand entered the cosmetics business in 1897 with their first product Eudermine, which still exists today. Shiseido was a pioneer in combining Eastern esthetics with Western medical science and business technology. It is a prestigious cosmetics, skincare and fragrance brand with subsidiaries in approximately 68 countries. It is currently ranked as the fifth largest cosmetic house internationally. Shiseido products are based on aromachology - a combination of the terms aroma and physio-psychology. The purpose of aromachology is to scientifically investigate the physical and psychological effects of scent in order to improve daily life. Shiseido, with its origins in the East, was naturally drawn to the eastern holistic approach to medicine involving the senses, mind and body. Shiseido pioneered research and development in three core areas: aromachology, perfume ingredients and superior perfume creation, working to develop fragrances that express the essence of Japanese culture through scent to the world.
