Brows for beginners: The perfect brow using two products
Choosing the best brow product for you can be overwhelming - pencils, gels, pomades - it's intimidating...not to mention learning how to actually use the product! If like me, you’re not too savvy when it comes to your arches, then tune in – we got the 411 from arguably the world’s leading brow brand.
bh’s Sarah caught up with Jared Bailey Benefit Cosmetics’ Global Brow Expert for a one-on-one brow tutorial. And, unlike all the YouTube how-to's, this one only requires two products, which in my novice brow opinion are suitable for beginners.
What you need:
Benefit precisely, my brow eyebrow pencil, $45
Don’t let this ultra-fine eyebrow pencil deter you, it’s actually surprisingly easy to control. The purpose of the fine tip is so you can create natural hair-like strokes, which is ideal for brows with gaps or if you just need some extra definition | Shop now
Benefit gimmebrow+ volumizing eyebrow gel, $46
This gem took out Best Brow Product in the 2019 Best in Beauty Awards for good reason: it’s simply the best. It features tiny microfibers that adhere to skin and brow hairs, creating natural-looking fullness and definition. Unlike other similar products I’ve used, gimmebrow+ is super easy and fail-proof – if you make a mistake it’s easily corrected by brushing away | Shop now
Jared’s key tips:
#1 Microblading doesn’t replace product
With a brow tattoo it’s even more important to use brow products to add texture so they look natural – when untouched they can look a bit like a sticker.
#2 Treat your brows like your hair
People are shifting from a one product brow to a multi-dimensional brow using more than one product. Just like the hair on your head, there are multiple shades present so you want to carry that through to your brows for a natural look.
#3 Mimic your brow hairs
Stroke in the direction of your natural brow hairs to define but soften the look of the brow – you don’t want thick slug-like arches!
#4 Don’t cover it up!
Unlike foundation, you don’t want to cover up the whole brow. Leave a little space in between each stroke to create the illusion of real hairs.
#5 Add volume
Like muscles you want to bulk up the brow - use a tinted brow gel with fibers to add volume.
