“Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era” the announcement proclaimed.
Following months of bold colours making waves in a makeup world, we kind of agree. While the colour is chosen as an indicator of a shade that will be influential across a wide number of industries including fashion and interiors, it's also an indicator it will be trending in the beauty world as well. When worn as a makeup colour, it is dramatic enough to be head turning, but works best when applied in a minimalist manner.
We've found all the best products to get the jump on what is sure to be a go-to hue in the coming year.
Kylie Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Royal, $10.60
The closest shadow we could find to Pantone's pick, Kylie's shadows are ridiculously affordable and the pigment glides on with exceptional colour payoff, as seen on her endless Instagram arm-swatches. Wear this blended over lids or just a touch beneath the lower lashline, the hue really makes brown and amber eyes pop. | Shop now
Sephora Collection Easy Smoky Eye in Midnight Blue, $21
We love a product that comes with a tool attached! Use this chunky gel liner to trace your upper lash lines and wear it with a minimal glowy base, or use the smudging tool to blend the line for an easy, softly smoky look. You can even use it to scribble over lids for more dense but easily blended colour.

Shiseido ControlledChaos MascaraInk in Sapphire Spark, $60
Blue mascara has been having a bit of a celeb moment, just check out Lupita's striking look at the Golden Globes as reference. Her makeup artist added the bold colour just to the outer lashes and combined it with a cobalt inner-rim liner to make the look vivid and eye-catching | Shop now
CND Vinylux Nail Polish in Date Night, $19.95
Feeling a little overwhelmed with how to approach wearing blue on your face? Glossy blue tips are an easy way to make a nod to the trend, or use it over a nude polish as a nail art accent, for example with chevron tips or polka dots.
Jane Iredale Mystikol Powdered Eyeliner Sapphire, $62
The creamy finish of this liner makes it a winner as it glides on without tugging our pulling and givesdense and bright colour. A tiny but perfectly-shaped liner brush concealed in the lid means you don't have to worry about finding the right brush but you can easily dip a larger shadow brush into the pot if you want to use the product for wider coverage. The appealing thing about this shade is that it suits a wide range of skin tones from fair to deep.
Essence Kajal Pencil in 26, $2.25
It might just be the bargain of the century, this pencil is the perfect thing to re-create the minimalist liner seen on Sophie Turner in the image above. The true blue colour also works well with a brown smoky eye as a contrasting water-liner as worn by Joan smalls here | Shop now
Kosas 10 Second Liquid Eyeshadow in Nitrogen, $48
Anything that goes on in 10 seconds and can be blended with fingertips is a winner in our book! These new liquid shadows from Kosas are ultra-fluid so apply just a dab and blend and you'll get a water-colour effect, or add it in layers for more dense colour payoff. If you are nervous about going straight in with the applicator wand you can also add to the back of you hand and then use your ring finger to dab over lids until the colour is blended | Shop now
Stila Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in Vivid Sapphire, $40
A little deeper than the Pantone shade, we've added it here because it's one of our faves for a luxe party look and again, with the blendable texture it's so easy to use. It can be applied and then bended into powder shadow for a smoky look or added as a dot in the centre of lids for a shimmering finishing touch. It has fantastic staying power, so won't wear off or dull after a few hours on your eyes | Shop now
