The one lip trend that just keeps keeps on growing
Move over matte, it’s time to join the glossy posse! If you've dug your heels in over the last year and stuck determinedly to shine-free finishes, we can hardly blame you, there have been some epic new formulations that look like velvet and feel great on.
But we feel it’s our duty to give you the heads up, now might be the time to turn, for makeup counters everywhere are positively heaving with new lip launches, all with a decidedly reflective finish. And guys, they're really good.
RELATED: The best lipsticks for under $15
It could be that the fashion world has embraced both a lush, balmy pout as well as plastic-y, patent shine for recent runway appearances graced by the baby supers like Kaia, Bella et all.
Maybe it's red carpet turns by young Hollywood stars, who prefer the fresh, plumping finish of the latest glosess to the intensity of flat, matte colour.
Whatever is it, we’re embracing both influences and getting amongst the avalanche of easy-going glosses, oils and balms that deliver the decidedly desirable illusion of making your lips look twice the size.
Here are our fave new arrivals:
L’Oreal Rouge Signature Brilliant Lip Ink Liquid Lipstick, $26.99
This one’s a real winner and we seriously can’t stop swiping. Not that you need to, the moist, comfortable colour has a brilliant way of sticking round on lips without bunching up in the corner of your mouth and comes in perfect pinky-nude hues as well as more obvious options.
Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil Infused Lip Gloss, $50
Those who spent years cursing a windy day (and then constantly plucking strands of your own hair from your MAC Lipglass in Prr) will love the lack of stickiness that these new arrivals offer. Bobbi’s new collection includes 12 shades plus three cool limited edition colours selected by Yara Shahidi, spokesmodel for the brand | Shop now
Revlon Ultra HD Vinyl Lip Polish, $27
So-called drugstore brands are smashing it out of the park this season, nailing trends and releasing limited editions offering just what we want to wear right now. Which is, tbh, this Revlon gloss. Its long-lasting gel texture stays on and feels good long after it's applied and the peachy hue is oh-so-flattering on a wide range of skin tones | Shop now
Clarins Natural Lip Perfector in Intense Garnet, $40
A soft and plush lip gel texture that’s been a favourite forever, but now comes in more on-trend shades with slightly more pigment | Shop now
Dior Lip Glow Oil, $60
The mirror-shine of a lipgloss with the caring properties of a lip balm and a pretty, subtle, see-through tint to boot. It seems to magically skim over lines and texture for a full, luscious pout. | Shop now
MAC Patent Paint Lip Lacquer, $50
If you're of the ‘go bold or go home’ persuasion, your option is to be found in the mirror-shine finish and liquid-lip-like colour payoff of MAC’s new lacquer | Shop now
Tom Ford Gloss Luxe, $88
A pretty penny to pay but given it’s straight from Kendall Jenner’s lips at Ford’s just-happened New York Fashion Week show, it’s got a premium pedigree and wave-around-in-the-restaurant-while-you-touch-up-worthy-wand | Shop now
Makeup Revolution Sheer Lip Gloss, $7
Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme, $49
Not keen on the needle? Here’s the next best thing. This formula is seriously intense and the tingling (some might say burning) feeling after application takes some getting used to, but pretty much only as long as it takes you to look in the mirror and gaze upon your shiny, plumped-up pout.
