New launches we loved in 2018
We haven’t counted, but the number of beauty products that come across the beautyheaven editors’ desks a year would easily number in the hundreds. So picking the best of them? It’s a big ask, and definitely subjective, but we’ve rounded up some of our favourite releases of the year for you.
RELATED: New beauty launches you need to know
Whether they offer something completely new or an upgrade on everyday essentials, these are items that have made it into our beauty bags and bathroom cabinets. When a beauty editor regularly reuses and re-purchases a product you know it’s earned its place as a must-have.
bh loves: (L-R) Trilogy Rosehip Transformation Cleansing Oil, Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide Capsules Line Erasing Night Serum, Tiffany & Co 50ml EDP, Gucci Bloom EDP, Giorgio Armani Si Passione EDP, Dermalogica BioLumin-C Serum, Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex Synchronized Recovery.
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex Synchronized Recovery, $124
We’re of the belief that good skincare can often take the place of a dedicated eye cream, but this hydrating wonder really does refresh and revitalise the under-eyes, because you can see the evidence each morning.
Trilogy Rosehip Transformation Cleansing Oil, $35
There have been cleansing oils before it, but this completely natural, nourishing version from local heroes Trilogy has replaced them all for us because it works well without any unnecessary additives.
Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide Capsules Line Erasing Night Serum, 60 capsules , $162
Retinol can be daunting for those that haven't experienced it’s smoothing, age-blurring properties, so here’s an easy-as-pie pre-measured option that feels good and delivers.
Dermalogica BioLumin-C Serum, $159
Vitamin C has been the buzzed about skin care ingredient of the year, touted for delivering tighter, brighter and overall better looking skin. This is our pick of the new Vit C arrivals.
Gucci Bloom Acqua di Fiori 50ml EDP, $127
It’s been a busy year for Gucci, releasing 3 fragrances under the Bloom banner. The original mixed Tuberose and Jasmine in an assertive modern floral scent, but we’re even bigger fans of this fresh green version.
Giorgio Armani Si Passione 50ml EDP, $183
A future classic,it's the fragrance equivalent of wearing red lipstick, feminine, passionate and bold.
Tiffany & Co 50ml EDP, $175
Inspired by Tiffany & Co diamonds (of course) the top notes of crisp mandarin and chic dry down of iris on patchouli and musk, send a very stylish message about the wearer.
bh loves: (L-R) Benefit Bad Gal Bang Mascara, YSL Tatouage Couture liquid lipstick, Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circles Concealer, Urban Decay Naked Cherry eyeshadow palette, L’Oreal Paris La Vie En Glow Highlighting Powder Palette, Shiseido Minimalist Whipped Powder Blush in Sonoya, Bobbi Brown Skin Long Wear Foundation SPF15, CliniqueFit Workout 24-Hour Mascara.
Urban Decay Naked Cherry Eyeshadow Palette, $91
We shed a tear or two when the OG Naked Palette was discontinued in August, but they dried quickly when this vibrant, berry-toned new edition arrived in November.
Shiseido Minimalist Whipped Powder Blush in Sonoya, $51
The feather-light whipped texture feels like a cream but taps into cheeks with a soft, powdery finish, giving a natural looking flush that won't disturb liquid or powder bases.
L’Oreal Paris La Vie En Glow highlighting palette, $27
A velvety, highly-pigmented palette that applied with the lightest hand, delivers the perfect ‘lit from within’ radiance to the complexion.
YSL Tatouage Couture liquid lipstick, $69
Hand on heart the most comfortable, long lasting liquid lippy there is, you wont regret dropping cash on this.
Benefit Bad Gal Bang! mascara, $46
A bit of all rounder: You get longer, thicker party-appropriate lashes, but not in that crispy, glugged-up way some volumising formulas give you, so it’s a good everyday option too.
Bobbi Brown Skin Long Wear Foundation SPF15, $88
With the surprising ability to balance out your dry and shiny bits, its coverage remains impeccable and goes the distance for those of us wanting to even out redness, pigmentation and blemishes.
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circles concealer, $24
We like a concealer to move and stretch with our face, rather than bunch up in any creases, so the fact it also has brightening, shadow-diminishing properties is a real bonus. It will stay put anywhere you put it, so we use it around the nose and chin too.
CliniqueFit Workout 24-Hour Mascara, $46
You don't need to work out to reap the benefits of a mascara that won't budge, even on lower lashes, and when you’re ready to cleanse, comes off with only warm water.
bh loves: (L-R) Redken All Soft Mega Mask, Moroccanoil Mending Infusion, Bondi Sands Glo Matte One Day Tan, Schwarzkopf Got2be Fresh It Up Volume Dry Shampoo, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Lotion.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Lotion, SPF50, $27
High factor SPF is a necessity but texture and grease gripes still have some dragging their feet. Convince them with this hydrating, transparent gel that applies easily to face and body and remains water resistant for up to four hours.
Schwarzkopf Got2be Fresh It Up Volume Dry Shampoo, $11
If you can ignore the teen-looking packaging, you’ll be rewarded with a sheer spray that mops up oily roots without leaving any white powder residue. None!
Redken All Soft Mega Mask, $48
A saviour for thick, very dry or artificially-lightened hair with three proteins that target the root, core and tip of the hair, gently reviving it and improving the manageability of thick, dry hair. Use after (or instead of) conditioner.
Moroccanoil Mending Infusion, $71
Expensive, but can you put a price on sealing and hiding dry, split and splayed ends and making your locks look Shampoo-model worthy? Moroccanoil has.
