The best party makeup ideas for the work Christmas do

We've made it! The silly season is upon us and it's time to celebrate. Which also means there's a party or two, not to mention Christmas Day to dress up and get glam for.

Picking a makeup look is all part of the fun, and if you live to plan, we've got plenty on inspo for you, pulling from this year's most-wanted trends worn by celebrities.
In a nutshell, if you choose anything at all that has glitter, gemstone hues on the eyes, or a cat-eye shape, and top it off with a glossy or balmy lip you'll be bang-on-trend and looking gorgeous to boot.
Glossy shimmer

Gigi's golden lids and caramel lips may just be one of our favourite celeb beauty looks of the year so of course we're running with it for party season! Makeup artist Patrick Ta keeps the shimmer on the lids and everything else softly matte, and gives an interesting hack with the liner in his comments, using an angle brush to apply a Maybelline gel liner, rather than straight from the pencil tip for a precise finish.
Modern silver lids
Charlie's Angels actress Ella Balinska serves some silver glam that perfectly plays off the crystal elements of her jacket in a way that looks modern, not OTT disco ball or space-y in any way. There are several elements that help her get this so right. First extending the glimmering silver from a dab at the inner corners of the eyes all the way to an extended cat-eye shape at the outer edge. A heavy fringe of false lashes ups the drama but wearing a blazer and a half pulled through knot in her hair brings it back down to cool-girl status again safely.
Bright waterliner

Bright eye looks have been everywhere this year and they show no signs of slowing, but we like this playful take which includes that party classic: A bold red lip. Choose a waxy or gel-based pencil that will stay in place on the inner line of your eye.
Euphoria glam

We aren't the only ones mesmerised by the inventive bright and bejewelled looks of Euphoria. Here, Katy Perry makes a convincing case for pink. We're particularly on board with the cystals becasue if you can't sparkle at this time of year, when can you?!
Go for gold
Gold eye shadow has been massive this year - global Urban Decay artist Steve Kassajikian talked to us about the brand's new gold 'Honey' palette - and it's still the perfect way to upgrade a smoky eye for party season.
Bronzed and glowy

Ashley Graham lets her silver dress shine and concentrates on luscious, healthy and bronzed skin. For this look it's worth doing your fake tan the day before, then concentrating on hydrating your skin prior to applying makeup. Lashes and liner are a must and we also love the way Ashley's hair is a unique combo of soft wave with a slightly damp and shiny finish. If your hair is very fine, using a lightweight shine spray after you've styled can offer a similar effect.
Statement lips

Another of our favourite looks this year, this searing pink lip and glossy eyelids on Adriana Lima is a fun update to go with the old Hollywood style hair. We loved the way she wore this look with two different lip colours on the night - the ultimate switcheroo if you have more than one event per evening.
Bolt from the blue

Blue liner makes Cara's eyes pop in the most amazing way, but it doesn't overwhelm her face, nor take away attention from her famously beautiful brows. It looks sharp and chic.
Gemstone green

Shimmering gemstone hues are abundant in eye shadow palettes right now but we've never thought of applying it in this particular graduated way. The addition of a chartruese shade makes all the difference, as does complementing it with understated yet glowing skin, brushed up brows and a balmy lip.
Galaxy eyes

Did we mention you can never have too much glitter? Right Rita?
Classic cat-eye

The classic cat- eye liner is always party appropriate, but what we love about the way Gemma Chan is wearing it, is that it doesn't read like a throwback at all when paired with sheer glossy lips and that show-stopping pink dress.
