Pregnancy & beauty: New mum talks changes to skin, hair and body
We caught up with multi-tasking extraordinaire (seriously though – makeup artist, blogger and mum of two!) Christina Dellar of Freckles & Blush to chat all things pregnancy, makeup and changes to her body, skin and hair after recently giving birth.

Christina recently took to her Instagram to share her struggle with bouncing back post baby:
"I am covered in stretch marks and cellulite. I have an umbilical hernia and diastasis recti. I am going to work hard to heal the ab separation with exercise but I will still need surgery sometime to fix the hernia. I am the biggest I have ever been and this is pretty much day one of my journey to find myself after babies. My goal isn’t a number on a scale my goal is to feel strong and sexy. I want to be fit and keep up with my boys. I want to feel confident and proud."
Christina’s mission this year is to be more real and honest about her life so other women going through the same journey know they aren't alone.
“My body felt so weak and broken after my pregnancy. Due to the diastasis recti damage and umbilical hernia I now have to totally repair and strengthen my core. This post (which makes my palms sweaty) is for all the moms out there that don’t ‘bounce’ back and are left with bodies they don’t recognise.”
bh: What changes did you observe in your skin, hair and body during and after pregnancy?
Christina: What part of my body hasn’t changed!!! Honestly one of the most confronting parts of motherhood is the changes your body goes through. When you’re pregnant it seems that every nutrient goes straight to the baby so once that little one was out I felt that my hair and skin were really weak, so now I am all about restoring my own health and strength from the inside out. I am using a hair, skin and nails multivitamin and I am looking for a good collagen powder too.
bh: What advice would you give your younger self?
Christina: Wear sunblock, don’t worry about your skin and changing body it will all sort itself out and who cares what other people say about you...you are dam beautiful inside and out. Now go tell another girl she is beautiful.
bh: How has your beauty routine changed post-baby?
Christina: So for me post baby is all about giving back to my body after a long and hard pregnancy. I’ve been doing lots of dry body brushing to stimulate circulation, which I struggled with when pregnant. Also, I have had really dry skin so I have been using the Weleda Skin Food cream which is thick and rich and really helps with my dry patches. Also post baby it’s all about two in one products because I just don’t have the time with a new born ha ha. So hair a hair mask that I can leave in is amazing or even overnight face masks are amazing because my sleep deprived skin needs all the help it can get!
bh: What do you want to teach your children about beauty?
Christina: I am a mother of sons so I want to teach them that what they see in the magazines of girls is all airbrushed and that “beauty” comes from the inside. I also want my sons to be confident enough to look after themselves. Just like their big manly dad they can use sunblock every day and cleanse and moisturise at night. There is nothing wrong with a man that looks after his skin.
