All the latest perfume launches you need to know
Autumn and spring are the biggest launch seasons of the year when it comes to fragrance, and while we’re still planning beach dates and topping up our tan, we’re totally ready for the new perfume arrivals that are beginning to drop.
With globally-timed launch dates coinciding with opposite season in the northern hemisphere, but markets like the UK still enduring decidedly brisk temperatures, the new releases are a mixed bag of bright and fresh and rich and intoxicating.
Suits us, because everyone has a different approach to their signature scent. That or just an obsessive need to acquire a perfume wardrobe with different ones to suit every possible occasion!
Here's what’s exciting on counters now and coming soon:
Carolina Herrera Good Girl 50ml EDP, $168
You may have caught a glimpse of this spiked stiletto on the gram as it has been available overseas for a while, but did you realise there is a perfume inside? It's just arrived in NZ and while we’re a bit *thinking-face-emoji* about the name (we get the irony but it’s still patronizing) - the scent is undoubtedly appealing. Not your everyday wear as you might guess from the bottle, but ideal for date night, it’s an intoxicating mix of white florals and warm tonka bean.
Lancôme Idôle 50ml EDP, $139
On the flipside Lancome’s new release is sparkling and light, a modern take on chypre with rose and jasmine and a touch of lingering depth. It’s also notable because the slimline packaging that's been referred to as the' world's thinnest perfume bottle' was designed to resemble the way a smartphone feels in your hand, and cannot stand upright, only laid flat on your vanity. The upside? Works really well in Insta flat-lays! | On counter February 24
Jo Malone Vetiver & Golden Vanilla Cologne Intense 50ml, $195
Jo Malone’s black-bottled ‘cologne intense” family always delivers dramatic and opulent scents that hero specific, sometimes rare or unusual, ingredients. This time the brand has chosen to work with vanilla, which, in fragrance always has the potential to deliver the most sweet and basic perfumes out, but here takes on a luxurious, warm and worldly quality. Vetiver, (a fragrant grass that has a green, earthy scent) and vanilla, both sourced from Madagascar, work together in a rich perfume that is equally good on men and women | Shop now
Dior Miss Dior Rose N’ Roses 50ml EDT, $155
A pretty reimagining of Dior’s youthful Miss Dior perfume that pushes roses to the front. Elegant and joyful, it’s not as young as you might expect, with a touch of tart citrus keeping things exciting | Shop now
Altaia Wonder of You 100ml EDP, $340
Watermelon isn't a very common note in perfumes. Here it works alongside grapefruit and blackcurrant and floral elements to make it a little bit more juicy. Inspired by falling in love with someone, it’s the perfect mood booster | Shop now
Bottega Veneta Illusione 50ml EDP, $160
Fitting for a high-fashion house, this is slightly different to what you might think from the bottle, an unexpectedly green offering with elements of fig leaf as well as citrus and white flowers. If you don't like overwhelmingly sweet or floral scents, this is a good one to try | Shop now
Tom Ford Soleil Neige 50ml EDP, $378
Tom Ford's Soleil Blanc with its sun-drenched coconut and white floral notes, is a scent synonymous with summer. Now meet it's winter counterpart, a new perfume designed to mimic 'the shimmer of sun on snow.' That results in a citrus-floral-musk with bergamot and carrot seeds(!) and a creamy dry down | Shop now
