Winter fragrances 2019: 6 cosy perfumes to wear
Akin to pulling on a soft knit and long leather boots, applying an evocative perfume is the perfect winter mood-booster, whatever the weather. Changing up your beauty routine for winter has become common-place, so why not do the same with your perfume?
Our brain processes our sense of smell and our memories and emotions in a similar place, so it makes sense that certain scents can be so strongly (and favourably) connected to a season.
Hot chocolate, freshly-chopped firewood, soft cashmere, a frosty morning or damp leather or wool all have strong scent associations with the cooler season.

To heighten those good nostalgic feelings, push aside all those perfume bottles full of bright, zesty notes and look for rich, warm elements like spices, patchouli, sandalwood, vanilla and leather, as good as a warm beverage in hand as the temperature dips.
You can also get away with wearing a more intense scent than the light, breezy notes that are perfect when a beach day is imminent.

Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille 50ml EDP, $378
Tom Ford has a number of opulent, spicy perfumes perfect for winter (or after-dark) but we love this modern mix of slightly bitter tobacco with the sweetness of vanilla, a sexy gourmand for those that usually find edible notes too sickly.
Byredo Eleventh Hour 50ml EDP, $215
This perfume is fruity, warm and spicy, loaded with bergamot, fig and pepper, again calling on tonka beans and cashmere wood as a base.
The Body Shop Black Musk 30ml EDT, $39.95
Pear and black vanilla combine with elements of cacao and licorice in this musky and delicious scent.
Hugo Boss The Scent For Her Private Accord 50ml EDP, $134
This luxurious scent is sweet and warm with notes of cacao and coffee on a creamy tonka bean base.
Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt 30ml cologne, $118
If you prefer your winter scent on the cleaner side, this cologne reminds of the wind whipping your face on a rainy day beach walk, with its fresh mix of salt and earthy woods.
Floral Street Ylang Ylang Espresso 50ml EDP, $119
Head-tuning and unique, the list of gourmand notes like coffee and whipped cream in this cult buy, develop into a more smoky-woody floral.
