Syrene Skincare - Tried, Tested and Reviewed
Call me shallow, but if you give me a brand to trial and it’s pretty, you have me a little giddy already. I know I am not alone with the appreciation of a brand who not only nails their formulas but also their brand packaging and aesthetic - for this reason, Syrene Skincare had me at hello. But, I am also no fool, so as pretty as the packaging is, the product needs to deliver on results, so I was desperate to get my mitts on this brand and bust open that beautiful blue packaging.
New Zealand brand, Syrene Skincare is relatively new in the beauty world having been born in 2016 by a team of women who are passionate about skincare. With a focus on using ingredients, which are found both in the ocean and in nature, their Aqua range has been designed to throw homage to the different phases of a woman's life and has hydration, nourishment and repair top of the list of what this range will deliver. It was time to put it to the test. I decided to dedicate a full month to using this brand exclusively to really get the best benefits – here’s what I thought.
Aquagel Oil To Foam Cleanser, $79.99
Designed to be a gentle form of cleansing, this oil formula transforms to a soft foam once blended with water. It feels soft and refreshing on the skin and does a great job of removing my makeup from the day. I wouldn’t be a beauty editor if I didn’t double cleanse, and let’s face it, something this luxe is always nice to use twice! My skin feels thoroughly cleansed without any tightness or left over residue.
Aquagel Refreshing Toner, $99.99
Toner seems to divide people in the beauty world – you love it or loathe it – I am in the first camp - my skin regime just wouldn’t feel complete without it. With the inclusion of algae extract and sea salt, this toner helps to remove any remaining residue from cleansing while also retexturising the skin. I pop this onto some organic cotton pads and sweep over my face. It feels fresh and my skin seems to love it.
Aqualight Moisture Gel Lotion, $99.99
The name isn’t wrong – this lotion is light, yet luscious to use. I team this with my regular sun protection for a day out and my skin drinks it up on application. A little bit goes a long way, it feels silky and thanks to the marine actives in the formula, I know my complexion is getting some goodies delivered while I am out and about during the day.
Aqua Intense Cream, $109.99
I decide to keep this cream for the evening due to the richer formula. Containing oils from jojoba and macadamia nut, this cream is said to help iron out fine lines and wrinkles. I am generous with my application and use the rest on my décolletage and even the tops of my hands before bed. Its creamy consistency feels like I am giving my skin some serious pampering.
Aqua Restore Eye Essence, $109.99
I used this morning and night around my eye area and loved it. Designed to reduce puffiness and darkness around the eyes, while also reducing the appearance of fine lines around the eyes, this essence is light yet heavy hitting. It feels light to apply making it sink into the skin seamlessly.
Aqua Power Masque, 119.99
What is a skincare brand without a sheet masque right?! I am all about popping a masque on at night while I’m in front of the TV. This masque is in sheet form making it so easy to pop on and forget about. Drenched in antioxidants and marine botanicals, this feels like heaven on the skin. Once I finally got around to removing it, my skin felt intensely hydrated and positively glowing.
Aqua Hydrating Masque, $119.99
I am all about time saving, so a beauty product that works while I slumber is ideal! This formula is designed to be a big drink for your skin, containing ingredients such as pohutukawa, manuka honey, and black fern, not to mention algae extract, prepare for your complexion to feel plump and dewy once this gem works its magic.
Travel Companion, $99.99
I get to travel a bit for my job, so always relish taking mini sets away with me – I never like to compromise my skincare regime when I go away, so this little set is the perfect addition to my suitcase. Sydney here we come!
Overall, I found this range beautiful to use - it's soft, silky on the skin and if I were to use two words to describe it, I would say hydrating and nourishing. The masques were a real standout for me because they are one of those pampering products that can go anywhere with you. This range will most certainly be staying in my bathroom cabinet to continue using (did I mention, the colour works perfectly in my white bathroom!).
