The Bachelorette NZ: Lily McManus beauty routine and exercise regime
Bachelorette fans were shook when a shock twist saw Lily McManus join Dr Lesina Nakhid-Schuster as the second Bachelorette – a world first in the show’s global history. Instead of competing against one another in the double-dating surprise, the women have loved being along for the journey together. No competition to see here!

Lily is no stranger to reality TV - she worked with TVNZ 2 last year on Celebrity Treasure Island, and has had time on Three's The Bachelor NZ, which was followed by a stint in the United States on The Bachelor Winter Games. She’s also amassed 130k Instagram followers, thanks to her super down to earth lol-fest account and amazing travel pics. We chatted to her about all things beauty and how she looks after herself.
What’s your beauty philosophy?
Less is more unless you're on TV, then sometimes you look like you've haven't slept in 8 weeks if you forget to wear mascara.
Run us through your morning and evening skincare routine.
I usually take my makeup off before bed with a makeup wipe then moisturise. Get up in the morning, splash some cold water on my face then moisturise. I'm one of those people that think skin care is just a money-making scheme, I'm a terrible person to interview for this I'm sorry!
What three products will we find in your handbag right now?
I always carry my retainer in my handbag for some reason, it doesn’t have a case either so it gets pretty crusty. I also always have Ural and a tinted Chapstick. Two saviours for a woman.
What beauty product are you obsessed with right now?
I love MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick. Some lady introduced it to me in an airport in Argentina, I've never been a massive lipstick lady but that colour is loose.
Which is your ride-or-die makeup brand?
Tarte is my go to. Mineral makeup always works best with my sensitive skin.
What’s the best makeup tip you’ve learnt since filming The Bachelorette?
An incredible makeup artist named Justine Conroy taught me to do my bronzer with strokes that come inwards towards my nose and under my cheek bones, instead of down towards the corners of my mouth. Game changers. I still do my eyeshadow with my finger like a two-year-old finger painting though.
Have you made any changes to your makeup since seeing yourself onscreen?
NEVER wear winged eyeliner. Doesn’t suit my eyes if done wrong. We will see this terrible mistake sometime soon in one of the upcoming episodes.
What’s your signature scent?
Chanel Coco Noir. It's a Christmas present every year from my mother. She buys me perfume because she knows that if she doesn’t, I'm happy to smell like $5 tea tree oil deodorant.
How do you keep your hair in such gorgeous condition?
I've been pretty lucky to have pretty strong hair my whole life. I don't use a lot of hot tools normally which keeps it in good condition. After the bachelorette she was looking pretty haggard from all the curling, so I had to get a whole heap chopped off.
Talk us through how you stay in such incredible shape!
I have one of those bodies that stay reasonably lanky naturally. I was training maybe three days a week for five weeks before the show which kept me strong, but I also love beer and prioritise sleep over working out, and I think sometimes that shows. Weight fluctuates, it doesn’t define us and is definitely not the end of the world.

New year, same lump of woman. This year has been a real weird one for me, a whole heap of heart empty and heart full moments. Sorry I’ve clocked off here these past few months and haven’t been able to fill in any of the gaps. I got a kidney infection, fell down a flight of stairs and scratched a hire car this week if that makes y’all feel any more in the loop. Next year a lot of cool things will be getting this woman out of bed in the morning. I’m signed up for a year full of writing, moving, scabbed knees, mild organ failure and emotional transparency. Y’all will get to see a bit more of this disabled, tired, honest, crass, happy to be here, deep feeling, breakfast neglecting woman. Till then, she’s clocking off to Australia to live in a van for the next few weeks to photosynthesis. Much love kids, cheers to life and all the stupidly great shit it does to us.

What would a typical day’s diet look like?
I can't say I'm consistent in the diet department. I've always grown up eating pretty healthy but my relationship with Uber Eats is a very significant part of my life.
How do you look after yourself and unwind?
I love to swim in the ocean, get some sunshine. go for big long walks in nature and talk some smack with a close friend. I have some great people in my life that I can speak to about anything, I think having people in your life that you can trust and bounce your thoughts off really keeps me at peace with all the weird and wild things that go down in my life.
Any beauty advice to your younger self?
Love your freckles you beautiful little shit. Try not to hate them so much.
